If you have lived in Caldwell for more than a summer or two, you already know the daytime rhythm of Grover Cleveland Park by heart. What has shifted in the last few Augusts is the evening. The last stretch of summer no longer ends at the pond bench. It ends under the gazebo at Crane Park with a food truck line, and Bloomfield Avenue is the connective tissue on either side of it.
That is the argument of this post. The rest is the schedule and the map.
The August 6 Gazebo Night Is the Pivot
The West Caldwell Gazebo Concert Series runs weather permitting, with food available for purchase starting at 6:00 PM and music beginning at 7:30 PM. Because Caldwell and West Caldwell share recreation services out of the West Caldwell department on Clinton Road, the gazebo functions as a shared local venue rather than a neighboring town's event.
August 6, 2026 brings Soul Seduction to the gazebo, with Angry Archies, Jersey Rollz, and Amanda's Bananas parked as the food trucks. The Labor Day closer on September 7 is Suit & Mai Tai, with All American Hot Dog rounding out the truck lineup. Two nights, three weeks apart. That is the whole late-summer arc.
What's Left on the 2026 Schedule
A compact look at what remains before the series wraps:

- Monday, September 7 (Labor Day) — Suit & Mai Tai, closing the summer.
If you missed the earlier dates, the July 30 night featured The Eddie Testa Band and the July 23 show doubled as a Sunrise ShopRite Barbecue benefiting the West Essex First Aid Squad. Worth knowing if you want to gauge crowd size for August 6, which historically pulls the biggest turnout in the run because it is the last standalone Thursday before the holiday break.
Grover Cleveland Park Is Still Doing the Daytime Work
The park is what makes the pre-concert hours easy. Grover Cleveland Park spans 41.5 acres and was designed by the Olmsted Brothers in 1913, which is the fact most residents cite and then move on from. The more useful detail is that the design is doing something specific for late-summer light.
The park was conceived with a formal design of manicured lawns, well-spaced large trees, and 3 acres of waterways, including Pine Brook Creek, which runs through the park feeding a small pond at the lower end. A small footbridge at the far end of the pond marks the location of a one-time sawmill. That footbridge is the shady turnaround point on a hot afternoon. The pond side stays cooler than the meadow well past six in August.
The playground has been quietly upgraded in ways that matter if you are trying to burn an hour with kids before a 6:00 truck line. The re-opening added three new play structures for kids of varying sizes, a standing zip-line, bongos, a variety of swings including a disc swing and two tandem swings, a swaying step bridge, and metal-and-rope climbing structures. Bocce and horseshoe pits are still there, and newly added pickleball courts share space with the tennis courts. The pickleball addition is the change that has actually altered who shows up at what hour.
The Bloomfield Avenue Corridor, Before or After
If you want to eat before the gazebo, or debrief afterward, the Bloomfield Avenue stretch through Caldwell is walkable in a single arc. A quick map by address, west to east:

The pattern most residents fall into: dinner on the avenue at 5:30 or 6:00, walk or short drive to the gazebo before the trucks get deep, and the trucks themselves become dessert. Amanda's Bananas is the tell for that on August 6.
The Park Corner Most People Skip
If you want the loop that residents who have lived here twenty years still walk, it is not the pond side. It is the wooded stretch along Pine Brook Creek on the Essex Fells edge of the park. The park is heavily wooded across its 41.48 acres in the western section of Essex County along the Caldwell-Essex Fells border. The temperature drop between the meadow and that tree line on an August afternoon is real, and it is the part of the property the Olmsted plan was actually built around rather than added to later.
Two other things worth knowing about the park in August. The Grover Cleveland Park Conservancy handles the softer maintenance the county does not, which is why the plantings near the entrance at Brookside and Runnymede stay presentable through the dry weeks. And if a Thursday night at Crane Park sells out early with parking, the Brookside lot at Grover Cleveland Park is the overflow most concert-goers do not think of. It is a five-minute drive between them.
Two Weekends, in Order
For a resident trying to string the last of the summer together without over-thinking it:
- Thursday, August 6 — Early dinner on Bloomfield between 5:30 and 6:30. Walk the pond loop at Grover Cleveland if you have the time. Head to Crane Park for Soul Seduction, food trucks by 6:00, music at 7:30. Bring chairs.
- The weekend of August 8–9 — Morning coffee, Grover Cleveland loop with kids on the disc swing, lunch at the Caldwell Diner if you want a booth and the daily specials, which run Monday through Friday from 7 to 11 AM at reduced breakfast prices.
- The middle two weeks — No gazebo dates. The park does all the work here. Pickleball has become the reliable early-evening draw on the tennis-court side; horseshoes and bocce on the lawn side stay quieter.
- Monday, September 7 — Labor Day at Crane Park with Suit & Mai Tai. The last one. Traditionally the largest crowd of the summer because it is also the season's goodbye. Arrive earlier than you think you need to.
A Note for Someone New to the Neighborhood
If you closed on a house here in the spring and this is your first full August in town, the two events above are the ones your neighbors will assume you attended when they ask about your summer in October. The rest of the calendar is optional. Those two nights are how the year turns.
